10 Things We're Loving Right Now | June | The Nostalgia Diaries

June marked the official beginning of summer and a sudden influx of sunny, hot days here in Colorado. This summer sunshine warmth found us feeling rather…well, nostalgic… around here (shocker, right?), so it’s no surprise that our internet finds this month really had a way of taking us back to simpler times, the ones where days lasted forever and everything seemed so much more “unplugged.”

It seems like we aren’t the only ones loving nostalgia these days…

We’re Loving These Things Online

1) We are happy that typewriters are making a comeback Because the of theHands Typing Typewriter Ancient Retro Classic Keyboard clacking key strikes and the margin warning ding and the carriage return are like a time machine.

Because the heavy, solid construction makes them feel like a permanent piece of history, like the Parthenon or the Colosseum. And because they are themselves beautiful works of art that can be used to create other beautiful works of art.  Think Ernest Hemingway. Orson Welles. John Lennon. And .

2) Won’t you be my neighbor? Because Mr. Rogers said things like this:

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of “disaster,” I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.”

3) The official Dr. Seuss Museum… Because Dr. Seuss taught us that life should be whimsical.

As adults, we tend to lose our whimsy.  At The Nostalgia Diaries, we’re bringing sexy whimsy back…

polaroid-lead4) The Resurrection of Instant Film Cameras… Because instant photographs are simply magical.

And there is just something about a printed paper photograph that makes the captured memory more special… more visceral… more precious. (And it’s fitting because today, June 29, is National Camera Day!)

5) Nostalgic Lists Because childhood nostalgia makes you smile.

Number 14 will blow your mind! (I’m nostalgic for the days before clickbait…)

6) “Childhood in the Raw  Because kids living a tech-free childhood is rare these days.

For those of us who grew up before the internet and before iPhones and iPads, we spent a lot more time outside, so these photos are certainly nostalgic…  (Question:  Will skin cancer rates decrease in the next few decades because kids are not out in the sun as much? Hmmmm…)

7)  Because “Without music, life would be a mistake.” – Friedrich Nietzsche

camp-throwback8) … Because who says adults can’t go away to summer camp, too?

According to Camp Throwback: “Archery, arts & crafts, sloppy joes, swimming pools and slip n’ slides, campfires, s’mores, field day, all these things are happening, plus booze. It’s like The Parent Trap meets Wet Hot American Summer.” (Maybe meets !?) They’ve gotten lots of great press, including a recent in Live Happy Magazine!  (BTW: 2017 dates for the camp are sold out; 2018 dates are still open!)

We’re Loving This Website…

10) Leon Logothetis Because he is the author of Live Love Explore, The Kindness Diaries, The Mojo Diaries, and AmaLeon1zing Adventures of a Nobody.

And because he happily shares his wit and wisdom about living an intentional, inspirational, meaningful life with the world all across the web and now on Netflix.  And because we are all about kindness here are The Nostalgia Diaries, we can definitely get behind his mission of changing lives with kindness and his awesome initiative. I did not realize some of those sounds were twenty years old already! I found out that Harry Potter is 20 years old this week, which made me feel pretty nostalgic.

So many of these are taking me back! I love the list of songs turning 20 this year, since I was a teenager in 1997, most of those were my JAMS. I loved them. I kind of wish I had a typewriter. I have the perfect table for it.

Nice list! I am also happy that old school typewriters are making a comeback. It starting to make me very sad to see jewelry made from typewriter keys because of that means there are fewer typewriters in the world.

I had no idea there was a Dr. Seuss museum – that’s fantastic! Also – I LOVE the buzzfeed 90s post you included. So fun 🙂

  17. I’m having a dance party here, listening to all these “oldies” all over again 🙂 HA! I remember ’97 very well, as it was the year I went away for college, and many of these songs were just EVERYWHERE. Thanks for sharing and bringing back those happy memories 🙂

Awww, there’s a Seuss museum!? I didn’t know! That’s amazing, I would love to go visit!

Also Mr. Rogers=just the sweetest man, eh? There’s a beautiful clip of him speaking in court about the importance of funding for PBS. it’s incredible <3

And typewriters <3 I have one. I wouldn't use it, only because it's such a prized possession I don't want to ruin it, but glad they are making a comeback too!

Hope you have a great weekend!!

Thank you so much…I watched Leon’s Netflix clip and had to resist the urge to bawl (although, I did let some tears stream down my face)…such intense, life-changing kindness is such a blessing to behold! So, in answer to your question, this is one of the amazing things I discovered on line. Thank you ever so much for shining so brightly! 🙂
