Today we have a wonder-filled Throwback Thursday for you. Next month, nostalgic audiences will welcome the return of Diana Prince, better known as Wonder Woman.

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman (2017)

First appearing in the 1941 comic, All Star Comics #8, Wonder Woman has since seen plenty of action through the decades, fighting an assortment of bad guys from Nazis to supervillans. She always prevailed, not only because of her exceptional fighting ability, but also because she had some handy super hero hardware to go along with her super hero patriotic tights (her sexy — or as some would say, sexist — version of the typical worn by male super heroes). Bulletproof bracelets and shield, a telepathic tiara, and the Lasso of Truth have been mainstays to her crime-fighting arsenal.  Add to that her invisible plane, and you have a super hero that has instilled wonder, in every sense of the word, in generations of DC Comics fans and critics alike. (She has sparked continuing debate in some interesting articles such as this one and this one and this one).

Feminism and sexism and cheesy theme songs aside, one of our favorite nostalgic iterations of Wonder Woman was of course the 1970’s version played by Linda Carter.

Now tell us you’re not feeling just a little bit nostalgic for crime-fighting 70’s shows featuring women… Maybe you remember Maybe you remember Maybe you remember . Maybe you remember (no not that ISIS).

We love seeing remakes of classic stories/characters when they are done well (a difficult task to be sure). Hopefully, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman will not disappoint. Will nostalgia for Wonder Woman of old translate to blockbuster status for the new Wonder Woman and the upcoming Justice League movie (yes, she is in that one too)?

Time will tell.

In the meantime, here’s a recent fan-made video with lots of awesome 70’s Wonder Woman action for you to enjoy!

So tell us fellow Nostalgia Seekers… Are you going to see the new Wonder Woman movie?

  5. Don’t forget She-Ra 🙂 In 1984 I was Wonder Woman for Halloween. I had never felt so cool in my life. Her lasso of truth would come in handy sometimes today. I am very excited about the new movie and am very amused at those who argue that Wonder Woman (in the movie) is an unrealistic hero because she has taken time to shave her underarms. I guess you can’t stop crime if you spend too much time on hygiene. 😉 As always, thank you for this wonderful walk down Memory Lane. You are super!

Ah yes, She-Ra (she was an 80’s character, right?) I’ll bet there will be a lot of Wonder Woman costumes this coming Halloween! The debates surrounding Wonder Woman are pretty interesting, aren’t they? I’m glad you enjoyed the post! Cheers!

I am going to watch the movie! It will be interesting how a female superhero lead plays out to the public. Everyone always thinks about the original, so we will see how Gal Gadot does!

Yes, they have given the costume a more edgy look for sure, although we’re pretty nostalgic for Linda Carter’s 70’s get-up. Thanks for commenting!
