5 Songs That Remind Me of High School | Christina Pilat @ From Under a Palm Tree

Can you believe that the month of August starts this week? It seems like summer started just yesterday…

For most of us, the month of August is synonymous with back to school season. And the thing I always liked most about school starting up again was that it meant I got to go back to school shopping. There always was just something about picking out new notebooks and pencils and pens and deciding which kind of new backpack I wanted. Even when I was a teenager and started high school—a time when going back to school shopping shouldn’t have been nearly as exciting considering I’d already been doing it for 10 years or so—I still remember being beside myself to be able to get a new Eddie Bauer backpack. (Though I didn’t get a matching lunchbox or anything. That would have been so not cool: those were the years of basic, brown paper bagging it, for sure…) Continue reading “5 Songs That Remind Me of High School | Christina Pilat @ From Under a Palm Tree”

Another Trip Around the Sun: The Perfect Birthday Playlist

birthday-songs-nostalgia-diaries

It’s hard for me to believe, but my daughter Zoey turns 6 today. Because it seems like it was just yesterday she was an infant, taking her first steps and saying her first words, and then I blinked, and there she was, a bona fide little person, one who likes to try on makeup, takes care of me when I’m sick, and knows all the lyrics to her favorite songs. Time certainly does fly…

So in honor of her birthday today, it seemed only appropriate to share a playlist to designed to help someone celebrate their special day, no matter how old they may be or how many candles sit on top of their cake. (And remember: it’s not about how old are, it’s about how old you feel, because age is just a number, right?) Continue reading “Another Trip Around the Sun: The Perfect Birthday Playlist”

Reliving My Teenage Years Through Music | Yolanda @ Inspire and Wander

Reliving My Teenage Years Through Music | Inspire and Wander | The Nostalgia Diaries Blog

For a lot of us, our teenage years are some of our most formative. They are the years where we really start growing into ourselves—we begin to develop our own tastes, discover the things we really love, and make special memories that end up lasting a lifetime. And although some of the memories we make during those years are better than others (because let’s face it, these years often are some of our most awkward, too), no matter our experiences, we all seem to have fond ones of the music that carried us through them. Yolanda from Inspire and Wander brings us our Music Monday post today, where she relives her own teenage days through the music she loved during those years, music that she shares with her own teenage son today. Enjoy!

11 Nostalgia-Driven Songs | Pop and Rock

11 Nostalgia-Driven Songs | Pop and Rock | The Nostalgia Diaries Blog

Last week we featured 11 country songs that were written specifically with nostalgia in mind. Songs about nostalgia—about reminiscing and memories and the past. But did you spot the one song that did not quite belong with the others? If you picked American Country Love Song by Jake Owen, you’re right. To be sure, a song like that can spark up nostalgic feelings:

In every town and every place
There’s a boy who’s tryin’ to take a chance and dance
And find a way to run away with her heart

But it’s not the same as say, I Go Back by Kenny Chesney:

I go back to a two-toned short bed Chevy
Drivin’ my first love out to the levy
Livin’ life with no sense of time Continue reading “11 Nostalgia-Driven Songs | Pop and Rock”

A Nostalgic Summer BBQ Playlist

A Nostalgic Summer BBQ Playlist | The Nostalgia Diaries Blog

Sittin’ with your friends as y’all reminisce
About the days growin’ up and the first person you kissed
And as I think back makes me wonder how the
smell from a grill can spark up nostalgia.

Summertime – D.J. Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince

What do you think of when you think of summer? Sunshine?  Vacation? Taking it slow? Swimming at the pool? Running through sprinklers? Playing at the park? Summer camp? Walking barefoot in the grass? Drinking out of a hose? Watching the clouds? Riding bikes? Laying out to work on your tan? Going to the movies? Chilling out watching MTV in a cool basement? Simply marveling at the wonder of the world? Continue reading “A Nostalgic Summer BBQ Playlist”
