“Everyone jump upon the Peace Train,
Come on, come on, come on…” – Cat Stevens

April is all about peace and acceptance and over here at The Nostalgia Diaries (and Corey’s Everyday Nostalgia post yesterday told you about her journey to make peace with where she is in her life, and a week ago she wrote about finding peace in being enough). So today we decided that we should put together a Music Monday post of artists who have crafted songs about harmony, tranquility, happiness, and love. In a word:

Peace. Continue reading “Jump on the Peace Train: 11 Songs About Peace”

Make Today Miraculous

miracles-happen-every-day-nostalgia-diaries

The other day, after I picked up my daughter from school, I could tell she was in an awesome mood. Zoey scrambled into the car and snatched up my aviator sunglasses before I could say “Top Gun.” She placed them on her tiny face and started singing a song about how much she loved me. She was like a little rock star, performing this ballad of love.

I love taking videos of her when she’s this happy, because although I don’t know what she’s going to do or say, I can always count on being entertained.

So I pulled out my phone, started recording, and asked her a simple question:

How was your day today? Continue reading “Make Today Miraculous”

What Do I Know?

what-do-i-know-nostalgia

The other day I received a sweet text message from a friend:

“This song reminded me of you and your blog. So happy and great!”

The song? One of Ed Sheeran’s newest releases, What Do I Know?

I’ve been a huge fan of Ed’s music for years, so I excitedly clicked that YouTube link. And, just like my friend said, the song is great.  It’s happy.

And yes. It reminds me of my blog, too.

This super-catchy tune embodies so many of the things that the Nostalgia Diaries is all about: happiness, love, positive vibes—and of course—good music.

All the lyrics are fantastic, but these in particular spoke to me:

I’ll paint the picture, let me set the scene
I know when I have children they will know what it means
And I’ll pass on these things my family’s given to me
Just love and understanding, positivity

So what do I know? I know that, just when I think I can’t love his music more, Ed Sheeran keeps releasing awesome gems like this one, and I fall in love a little bit more. (I have a feeling that’s part of Ed’s master plan…)

So since we love passing things down here on the blog, we decided to pass this song on to you today. We think it’s the perfect way to kick off the weekend. Hope it’s filled with happiness, love, positive vibes, and good music!

It’s Not Going to Be Today | Sangbad

music-monday-love-poem-nostalgia

This week’s Music Monday reader submission comes from Sangbad over at Thoughts of Words. He’s a prolific poet and storyteller, and he crafted a lovely poem that he shared on his site on Valentine’s Day.  In his post, Sangbad describes his creation:

“When it comes to writing a story we follow the dialogue and scene format…there are many forms of a story like a flashback, epistolary, etc…but, they adhere to the defined format of dialogue and scene…why not write a story where there’ll be scene and songs…why not write a story in poem (written by self) and songs (listen to or written self)…

It’s Not Going To Be Today had been written when this idea struck me a few days before Valentine’s Day…the poems are written by me while the songs are the songs I listen to (few of them are my favorite)…hope you’ll enjoy this my approach telling a love story…”
