It’s May, It’s May! The lusty month of May!
Well, actually, May is more than half over, but May is the quintessential month of Spring (at least sitting here in the Northern Hemisphere it is). So we thought it would be good to put together another fun collection of springtime music on this May Monday… These are songs that have to do with spring, songs that remind us of spring, songs that feel like spring, and songs that will likely put a spring in your step and maybe, just maybe, put a little love in your heart.
Speaking of love, did you watch the fabulous Royal Wedding this past weekend? Meghan Markle looked gorgeous, and Prince Harry looked dashing as ever. Springtime weddings can be tricky of course, as the unpredictable weather can be a challenge. Here in Colorado, it could be snowing in May. Or it could be 80 degrees. Right now, it’s 50 and rain… But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, of course, experienced made-to-order wedding weather—crisp and clear with “wall-to-wall sunshine” as one meteorologist predicted.
The perfect spring weather, we’d say. Continue reading “Music Monday | 19 Songs For Your Spring Mix Tape + BONUS: Spring Mix Salad Recipes!”
Earlier this year, we shared with you a list of songs that sounded vintage, old, and retro—in spite of the fact that they were made only within the last few years. (Missed it? We’re excited to have guest blogger Denis Storey with us at The Nostalgia Diaries for our Music Monday post today. His story shows us how the music that defines the places and cultures in which we grow up can leave such lasting impressions on our musical tastes. I personally know all about how this works: when I was a young teenager living in Nashville, I became immersed in the world of country music and instantly fell in love with it—and I’ve been a fan ever since. We all have those songs. You know the ones: They’re the songs of our past, the ones that we discovered or listened to during pivotal times in our lives—the so-called turning points—that became so much a part of us that their words somehow became our own. They are the ones that played a part in shaping us into who we are today. They are the ones that we hear now that immediately transport us back to those days where we were evolving, where we were becoming, where we were discovering the parts of ourselves that just couldn’t wait to come alive. (Fun fact: Closer to Fine is one of mine.)
Our friend Megan Smidt knows all about this phenomenon, and she’s with us here today at The Nostalgia Diaries sharing her own Music Monday playlist, 5 Songs That Helped Make Me the Woman I Am Today. Continue reading “5 Songs That Helped Make Me the Woman I Am Today | Megan Smidt”
There’s just something about a summer night that so easily evokes nostalgia, don’t you think?
It’s that moment when the day finally starts to cool off, the moment the sun starts kissing the horizon, the moment the cicadas and crickets start singing. And in those moments, it’s so easy to think back to those easy, long-ago summer nights of no worries and no cares—ones that held things like slow sunset walks on the beach, sitting around roaring campfires with friends, swinging on a swing or rocking in a rocking chair on a porch as stars begin twinkling above, and running around and laughing in lush fields at dusk, trying to catch fireflies in a jar.
They were the moments that were so beautiful they practically shimmered. Continue reading “18 Nostalgia-Inducing Songs for Easy Summer Nights”
